After being ignored throughout winter your front door and indeed your front garden is in the frame. It’s time to view this space as more than a corridor to you front door.
Is the front of your house giving the impression you want? For you, guests and passers by?
Here’s a few tips to spruce up your front garden and lift your spirits too.

1. Give your front door a wash. It sounds obvious, but who ever does it? Windows get cleaned but woodwork can get forgotten. While you have the cleaning stuff out, sweep your garden path from gate to the front door.
2. Look at the space with fresh eyes.
To help, take photos, leave it a couple of days then look at them again. You will suddenly notice elements that spoil the garden. It could be where a planter is positioned or even that rusting old bike you no longer notice but everyone else does.

3. Think plants! They soften the harshness of brick and paving, Even if space is limited planters by the front door will make a house feel loved and welcoming.
4. Consider taking out some paving to create planting pockets. Remove a couple of pavers and fill with soil. You can then plant into them. This works well in corners and areas with little foot traffic.
5. When selecting plants, think season of interest. An evergreen shrub can be enjoyed all year. Bulbs planted around it will refresh its look in spring. The same shrub can then act as a green backdrop for summer flowering perennials right through to autumn. All that can be achieved in a small planter or planting pocket.

6. Never thought of putting a seat in your front garden? Think again. A good spot is under a window. You will feel engaged with the garden, encourage you to maintain it and gives you a lovely opportunity to chat as people pass by admiring your hard work
