Pop the kettle on and settle down. Inspirational gardens are just a few clicks away. Here are a few picks from me. They are an eclectic mix of styles and taste. Unifying them is the feeling that they belong in their surroundings, contented places. Always my aim when designing a garden too.

Dang-y-Coed Road and Heath Park

Two suburban gardens which usually open for The National Garden Scheme. A wonderful organisation supporting the opening of private gardens to the public. Raising millions for various charities each year.

Some of the gardens have been filmed for this year. Here are two much loved green spaces. The perfect reminder that gardens don’t need to be grandiose to be special. A soundscape of birdsong accompanies the film offering a moment of calm.

The Gardens of Waddesdon Manor

Victorian garden design at its colourful best. In many ways an unfashionable way of gardening. However, this film made me smile. Bringing back memories of childhood and visits to the local park. Think town hall planting and faded grandeur.

Beth Chatto Garden

I visited this garden last year and was bowled over by it. Beth Chatto passed away a few years ago yet the garden still feels personal and intimate. This garden popularised the notion of “right plant, right place” if we place plants in conditions which suit them, they will grow happily.

Claude Monet’s Garden at Giverny

When I think of Monet’s art, his beautiful garden is in my mind. This film hosted by the Royal Academy of Arts illustrates the blur of lines between art and our gardens. Many garden designers, including me are art trained and see gardens as a canvas for artistic impression.

Herbfarmacy

This organic herb farm produces plants for skincare products. This film shows that amazing plants can be grown without the need for chemicals. I love it for sheer joy of flowers.
